Animating a Nation
"A good idea entertains. A great idea connects."
Burhanuddin Md. Radzi
Once upon a keystroke, in a quiet corner of Malaysia, a frog leapt out from under its coconut shell, and the rest turned into history. That frog wasn’t just a logo. It symbolised a company that refused to remain small, that dared to look beyond limitations and leap into the unknown. Les’ Copaque Production Sdn. Bhd., Malaysia’s animation powerhouse, was founded not on luck, but on a calculated leap of faith. With a name inspired by the phrase ‘Last Kopek’ — the last card in a game where all hopes ride, Les’ Copaque was born out of risk, heart, and unshakeable faith.
Founded in 2005, Les’ Copaque redefined the landscape of Malaysian animation. Its mission is to craft world-class 3D animation that captures the soul of Malaysia and resonates powerfully with audiences across the globe. A former engineer turned animation pioneer, Tuan Haji Burhanuddin is a Managing Director who defies convention. He understood early that animation is more than entertainment; it’s a medium to reflect identity, values, and shared heritage.
The humble beginnings of Upin & Ipin, designed as a prelude to Geng: Pengembaraan Bermula, soon became Malaysia’s most beloved twins and Southeast Asia’s most recognised animated icons. What started as a short test series bloomed into a legendary phenomenon.
The studio’s momentum never ceased. From Pada Zaman Dahulu, Puteri, DaDuDiDo, and the historic Ultraman Ribut collaboration with Japan’s Tsuburaya Productions, showed Les’ Copaque has built an empire of IPs that speak to values, folklore, and imagination. Each story was drawn with the ink of imagination. Crowned by the Malaysia Book of Records and lauded across ASEAN, Les’ Copaque is more than an animation company; it’s a cultural torchbearer.
Tuan Haji Burhanuddin reminds us that boldness lies in staying true to your roots, and power lies in making your culture a global language. Simply put, he is the heartbeat behind a company that turned a local “last card” into an ace on the international stage. Alongside his wife, Hajah Ainon, the Chief Content Director, he set out to create local stories with universal appeal. Not flashy. Not foreign. Just real, rooted, and relatable.
Through every frame and every figurine, Burhanuddin’s philosophy shines: “If you want to shape a nation, start with its children.” That’s why Les’ Copaque isn’t just building animations. It’s building values and confidence in the next generation. With each frame, Les’ Copaque continues to prove: when you play your final card with purpose, you don’t just win the game—you redefine it.
