Meet Cheong Jun Hoong, a remarkable athlete, influencer, and national sportswoman hailing from Ipoh, Perak. Her journey in aquatics began at a tender age of four, igniting a passion that would lead her to astonishing heights in the world of diving.

At the age of nine, Jun Hoong took her first plunge into the world of competitive diving under the guidance of Perak’s state coach, Zhou Xiyang. Her dedication and talent were evident early on, paving the way for her remarkable journey. At thirteen, in 2003, she earned a spot at the prestigious Bukit Jalil Sports School, marking a significant milestone in her diving career.

Jun Hoong’s commitment extended beyond the pool. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Communications from Universiti Putra Malaysia, showcasing her determination to excel both in academics and sports.

Jun Hoong’s name entered the annals of sports history when she clinched silver with Pandelela Rinong in the women’s 10m platform synchronised event at the Rio Olympics 2016. This achievement thrust her into the limelight, making her a national pride.

Jun Hoong’s legacy reached new heights when she secured Malaysia’s first-ever diving gold medal at the 2017 World Aquatics Championships in Budapest, Hungary. Her flawless performance earned her perfect 10s from four out of seven judges, resulting in an overall score of 397.5. This historic victory shattered China’s stronghold in diving and etched her name in the hearts of Malaysians.

Although petite in stature, Jun Hoong’s mental strength, unwavering determination, and physical prowess far exceed her size. Her journey has been marred by injuries, even pushing her to consider retirement in 2009. Yet, she emerged as a true fighter, battling through pain and adversity to rise above challenges.

Her accomplishments have not gone unnoticed. Jun Hoong was honoured to be one of the three flag bearers representing Malaysia at the opening ceremony of the KL Sea Games 2017. Her achievements have been celebrated with prestigious awards, including ‘The Grand Master Brand Icon-Leadership Award’ by The Brand Laureate and the title of National Sportswomen of 2017.
